CEO & Co-Founder


Simon is Co-Founder and CEO of Virtonomy, where he leads the company’s strategy, business development, fundraising, and the commercialization of its AI-powered digital twin technologies for medical device development. He brings more than 15 years of experience across medical engineering, computational modeling, digital health, and medical device innovation.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Before founding Virtonomy, Simon served as Chief Operating Officer of enmodes GmbH, where he helped grow the company from an early-stage university spin-off into an established medical device engineering business, while leading the development of new cardiovascular technologies. Earlier in his career, he was a Group Leader and Research Associate at RWTH Aachen University, focused on cardiovascular engineering, computational simulation, and medical image processing.

Simon holds a Dr. rer. medic. in Medical Engineering from RWTH Aachen University and a Diploma in Technomathematics from the Technical University of Munich, including studies in Biomedical Engineering at the National University of Singapore.

ENGAGEMENT IN REGULATORY AFFAIRS

He is an internationally recognized expert in digital patient twins, in silico medicine, AI, computational modeling, and regulatory science for medical devices. Simon is a Task Force Leader within the Avicenna Alliance, where he drives adoption of computational modeling and simulation among notified bodies and regulators, and a member of the Board of Governors of the European Society for Artificial Organs. He is an active contributor to international scientific and regulatory initiatives in cardiovascular engineering and artificial organs, including the ISO 5840 working group.

Wen-Yang joined Simon as co-founder in 2019, bringing over a decade of experience in computer vision, measurement, and AI systems — including five years leading technical teams at Philips.
